They will be the ones who will be in control of what people remember of your day and what your future children, grandchildren and social media will see of your wedding day. You need to get along with them and trust them. Here are some tips on how to choose the right one for you.

Decide on what Kind of Wedding Videographer you Want.

Wedding video used to be your Uncle in the back corner of the Church, but not anymore!! There are different styles of video for different customer needs. There are cinematic movie trailers (3-5 minutes), multicamera documentary edits (full ceremony and speeches with extra content added in from the rest of the day), Short film (6-10 minute), feature film style (10+ minutes) and more. Look through some videographers wedding videos and see what you like best.
Our favorite is cinematic wedding movie trailers and feature film style. These show the highlights of the day from getting ready to the first dance cut with audio clips from the speeches and vows. It’s much easier to convince friends to watch a short movie than a long edit of your day. Just post it on social media and get ready for heaps of praise!

Watch at least 3 of their Wedding Videos.

Watch wedding videographers main product in full. Is this the length of video you want? Is it entertaining? Will you be showing it off to friends? Facebook? Will they want to watch it at this quality and length? Are there different products to choose from? Do they have good audio quality?
Watch out for promotional videos. They can be deceptive. Videographers often use templates and plug in their videos making them look great, but ends up looking very different from their final product. Promo videos are meant to draw you in, not necessarily present an accurate picture of what your product will be.
Another thing to watch out for is some wedding videographers steal others’ videos as their promotional videos. A great reason to check referrals or to at least check if their facebook videos tag their brides and grooms.

Check their facebook pages, youtube pages and website. Make sure they take wedding video seriously. Find someone who is passionate about creating amazing wedding videos.

Listen to your Videographer’s Audio.

Listen for audio in their videos. If they don’t have at least decent audio in their videos, I’d recommend finding another videographer. Audio is one of the things that sets video apart from photography. Hearing those peoples’ heartfelt words spoken at speeches and your wedding vows to eachother is priceless. Go for good audio as well as beautiful moving images.
Check the music. Do you like the musical choices? Do the videographers know how to turn the music down so you can hear the people speaking? Does the music complement the footage? Does the music complement the images? Or did they just haphazardly add images to music?

Also, check to see if they purchase their music or rip it. Ripped music can get you in trouble if you post it online. Find a videographer who licenses their music from a reputable site. Not only will it give you peace of mind and show the videographer is serious about his art, but you’ll also get a song that most people will associate with just you, since most people haven’t heard of these beautiful songs before!

Get Referrals for your Wedding Videographer.

Don’t be afraid to ask past customers about the videographers. Check their facebook page or Google page to read through the reviews. Ask your vendors which videographers they prefer to work with.

Things to ask. Did they get along with the photographers and other vendors?  Were they fun to work with? Did you get the feeling they knew what they were doing? Did the product come when they said it would? Did they provide a good service? Did you like them?
Make sure they have a solid name. We’ve heard of cheap videographers bailing on their customers last minute so many times or them never actually giving a product. This is horrendous!

Meet Your Videographers.

While all the above is great, ultimately you need to like who you’re working with. This is one of the most special days of your life and you don’t want someone you dislike being there all day. The best way to know if you’ll like them is to meet them.

These steps will help insure a successful wedding video. Remember, if you find someone who matches your criteria, then book them. Good videographers book up quickly!
